west of orkney windfarm completes 2024 geoscience campaigns

The West of Orkney Windfarm has now completed its 2024 geoscience campaigns.

The geophysical and geotechnical campaigns, carried out by specialist contractors GEOxyz and Geo respectively, will provide vital information for the design and construction of the two-gigawatt windfarm, which aims to deliver first power by 2030.

Last month members of the West of Orkney Windfarm leadership team and board visited the vessels used by Geo and GEOxyz, to understand their approaches to health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ).

This served to build on the teamwork the project aims to foster with all its contractors and demonstrated the project team’s commitment to safety for everyone we work with.

Speaking following the visit to Geo’s vessel Connector, Project Director Stuart McAuley said:

“Visiting the vessels and speaking directly to the teams improves our understanding of the operations taking place on behalf of the project and the risks involved. It also reinforces our message directly, that nothing is so important that we cannot take the time to do it safely.

“Operating at sea is of its nature hazardous and the visits, organized by our HSEQ Manager Allan MacDonald, brought home the need for every member of the team to do all they can to ensure a safe and successful campaign,” Stuart said.

Following completion of the campaign, Stuart concluded:

“Well done to Geoxyz and Geo on the successful completion of our 2024 offshore campaigns. Carried out on time, on budget and most importantly safely.”
